The susceptibility levels of Aedes albopictus larvae originated from fogging-free and dengue prone residential sites of Peninsular Malaysia against two organochlorines and six organophosphates were determined using World Health Organization (WHO) recommended doses. At 24 hours post-exposure, no mortality was recorded among all Ae. albopictus larvae exposed to dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), chlorpyrifos and bromophos. Possible resistance was displayed by Ae. albopictus larvae from fogging-free residential sites against fenitrothion and fenthion but noticeable level of resistance to malathion and temephos was revealed among the same larval populations. Meanwhile, Ae. albopictus larvae from dengue prone residential sites showed high resistance against dieldrin, malathion, fenitrothion and fenthion ranging from 33.67% to 89.00%. These results provided an elementary information on the susceptibility status of tested Ae. albopictus larval populations against primary organochlorines and organophosphates. However, additional susceptibility testings are proposed using discriminating doses of larvicides based on the local reference strain of Ae. albopictus to avoid the underrated or overrated of resistance among field strains of Ae. albopictus larvae.
