Abstract Content

The Wellcome Trust is one of the largest independent biomedical research charities in the world. Our mission is to improve health for everyone by helping great ideas to thrive. A major activity is to provide research funds to scientists to conduct the highest quality research in order to answer important scientific questions. The studies we support range from fundamental laboratory studies to field based epidemiology, clinical trials and population health. Although the majority of our funding is based in the UK a substantial proportion is based overseas, especially in low and middle income countries and disease-endemic countries. I will touch on the history of the Wellcome Trust, its vision and key activities, some examples of global health achievements, and discuss how we use partnerships to achieve our mission of improving global health.
