Hear from renowned speaker Mr Mac Chan, Lighting Consultant, from Stage Line Centre Associates (SLCA) who has designed several mega large-scale events such as Singapore’s National Day Parade, and the SEA Games.
These are the topics he will be covering:
- Broadcast Lighting requirement and technical planning
- Lighting design issue and technical/logistic challenge for large scale event
- New visualisation technology in large scale event application
- Case study of Singapore NDP, Commonwealth Games and SEA Games Opening Ceremony

Mac Chan has also been associated with multiple mega events and TV program as the lighting designer and/or the technician director where he designed and managed massive lighting and control systems.

Stage Line Centre Association
Before Mac Chan became the Principal Consultant of Stage Line Centre Association, he received numerous trainings in schools from different parts of Asia. He received his formal training from Malaysia Institute of Arts and further this, Stage Manage and Lighting Design Study in Taiwan National University of Arts. In 1996, he joined the All Asia Broadcast Centre (ASTRO) in Kuala Lumpur; the first fully digitize TV production studio facilities in the region as Lighting Director. He trained under one of the most prominent TV lighting figure, Mr Alan Birmingham, to further master his lighting design skills. At the same time, Mac was also responsible for the Lighting and Rigging system design and construction of the Studio 2, the second largest studio in ASTRO.
Since 1998, Mac has become an independent lighting designer and consultant. He was appointed as the lighting designer for the 1998 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony and had worked very closely with BBC on the live broadcast. Ever since then, Mac has always been associated with multiple mega events and TV program as the lighting designer and/or the technical director where he designed and managed massive lighting and control systems. These are the events he worked with, the grand opening of Petronas Twin Towers, Vietnam Hanoi Celebration of 1,000-year City Establishment, SEA Games 2015 Opening Ceremony, and Singapore National Day Parade 2009 to 2016.
He has also been invited as speaker for many international theatre architectural and engineering conferences including TEA 2006 in London to share his research works. And in the same year, he established Stage Centre Line Associates (SCLA) a company responsible in many major media/entertainment projects in the region, such as KLCC Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, Penang Performing Arts Centre, Penang Performing Art Centre, Calvary Convention Centre, Pinewood Studio and many others. He is currently appointed at the Lighting and Audio-Visual Consultant for the upcoming Twenty Century Fox World Theme Park in Genting Malaysia.
From the year 2002, Mac received many awards in Malaysia and Singapore to celebrate his works in lighting design. In 2006, he was awarded the National Arts Awards Malaysia for his achievement in Theatre Design. He is also working intensively on a joint research project to re-establish the Asian Performing Arts Space with support of the ANA-Ford Foundation.
With his long history involvement in Theatre and contribution in technical training, he was invited to be a proud member of OISTAT (International Organisation of Theatre Architects, Scenographers and Technicians) under UNISCO since 2003.
