Over the past 10 years with the spread of the internet in many households, as well as the ease of finding information, there has been an increase in the number of people searching for health informations online. In addition to searching for information online using the most varied search engines, the general public accesses a whole series of, so to speak, institutional sites to get information. Many hospitals have had to develop their own website accessible from the general public to inform users about services and how to access the hospital itself. The development of these sites is meant to be used by the greatest variety of people with the most varied levels of literacy and health literacy.

The aim of this research is to analyze the websites accessible by the public of 6 Italian hospitals (north, center and south) with more than 1000 beds spread over different departments. More specifically the researcher analysed the web page accessible after clicking "services to citizens" or similar wording to evaluate the readability and accessibility of the site by a citizen.

Research has shown that there is a genuine effort by every hospital to be user friendly with some hospitals that communicate better than others.

Greater efforts must be made by hospitals to improve the level of communication with users
