Introductions: Until now, there are still many HIV infected patients in Vietnam in need of care and treatment for diseases other than HIV. Nosocomial and community infections are still a concern. Therefore, it is to raise awareness for patients and family members as health workers and health educators.

Materials and methods: All HIV positive patients were cared for by family members during the study period from January 2019 to December 2019. The result evaluation and consultation form is based on 03 criteria: Knowledge - Skills - Attitude, and on the scale and level of the standard or not. Database are processed by SPSS.20 software.

Results: Some characteristics: There were 99 infected patients meeting the selection criteria,

Male still accounts for the majority of 73.7%; Average age: 40.1 ± 6.3, the lowest 16 years, the highest 68 years old, the majority of patients are in working age

Reasons for hospitalization: limb injury 38.4%, gastrointestinal diseases 27.3%.

HIV Transmission through injection accounts for 65.6%.

AIDS stage accounts for 26.2%; 20.2% had opportunistic infections.

Effectiveness of health counseling :

Characteristics of educated subject: The mean age was 42.5 ± 11.2; Only 7.1% do not go to school but can still communicate. Close relatives like parents, spouses, brothers and children account for the majority. Average counseling rate 2.5 ± 0.7 times / patient. Number of counseling required and literacy was not relevant.

Effective counseling: The consulting types we conduct include: Talk: 100%; Leaflets: 100% Practice in bed side: 75%. Counseling evaluation score: Knowledge on pathologies and transmission improved after counseling 5.8 ± 1.2 compared to 3.2 ± 0.8. Care skill improved 67% compared to before counseling was 35%. Attitude towards the patient (stigma) improved from 6.2 ± 1.4 to 4.9 ± 1.6.

Conclusions and recommendations: Health counseling for patient in general and HIV positive patients in particular is very effective, not only with professional care, but also of community significance. We propose implementing a regular, rich form to improve consulting efficiency.
